How much does a community manager cost in Costa Rica?
By the Nexora team · Published
Short answer
There is no official rate for a community manager in Costa Rica, and we did not find a reliable, current source for the market average, so we do not make one up. What can be calculated: if you hire someone full time with a university bachelor’s degree, the 2026 minimum wage is ₡664,078 a month (Costa Rican colones) and, with the 26.83% employer social charges, your minimum monthly cost is around ₡842,250, not counting the year-end bonus, vacations or tools. A freelancer or an agency quotes by scope: ask for at least three written quotes.
The legal floor for hiring a person in 2026
The 2026 minimum wage is set by Executive Decree 45303-MTSS, in force since January 1, 2026 with a general increase of 1.63%. For a community manager role with university studies, these are the references:
| Category | Monthly minimum wage |
|---|---|
| Unskilled worker | ₡373,092.30 |
| University bachelor | ₡664,078.07 |
| University licentiate | ₡796,921.00 |
These amounts are the legal minimum, not the market salary of a community manager. An experienced person usually earns more; ask for real offers before budgeting.
How much do the social charges add?
Employer social charges are added to the salary: 26.83% of gross pay (non-agricultural employers with fewer than 5 permanent workers do not pay the INA contribution, and their charge drops to 25.33%). With that, the monthly cost of a university bachelor at the minimum wage is around ₡842,250.
On top of that cost come the year-end bonus, vacations, equipment and the software the person needs. It is a floor for planning, not a quote.
Freelancer, agency or a tool: how to compare
There is no standard rate for freelancers or agencies: it varies by number of pieces, who writes, who designs, who posts and whether reports are included. To compare different options, ask each of them in writing for the same things:
- How many posts per week are included and on which networks.
- Who writes the copy and who designs the pieces.
- Whether they use your real photos or stock images.
- Whether they answer comments and messages, or only post.
- Whether you approve before posting and how many changes are included.
- Whether there is a minimum term and how you cancel.
And a tool like Nexora?
Nexora plans, writes, builds the pieces from your photos and posts to Instagram and Facebook every week; you just approve. Its Starter plan costs from US$29 a month. It is not the same as hiring a person: answering comments and direct messages is better done by a human, and Nexora does not replace that. What it does solve is the part that takes the most time and is most often abandoned: weekly consistency.
